Options For Our Final Product

For our final product, we were able to choose from the following, to decided what we wanted to make our final product about;

- A Short Film
- A Horror Trailer
- A Music Video

After a lot of deliberating between the four of us, we decided that the horror trailer stood out the most for us, because we all enjoy the horror genre, and as soon as we we heard there horror trailer was an option, we all started coming up with ideas in our head of what could be good to put into our horror trailer, thus making it the obvious choice for us to make.

Naomi Wolf Theory

Naomi Wolf is considered to be an American feminist who believe that media products use woman as a source of attraction and believed that if a woman is used within media products, then it is more likely to sell.

She believes that women have been conditioned into aspiring to look like models and females who are considered to be gorgeous. She states that when women look at women within media products they will instantly compare themselves to the model on the screen or on magazines and they will pick out all of the negative aspects of themselves and will aspire to be like the women they see in media products.

When existing media products use females they will place them in poses that suggest female sexuality is replaced by the means of beauty and this shows that women are putting themselves in competition with one another, yet most women don't see their bodies as a source of pleasure.

In order to incorporate this theory into our work, we decided to use an attractive young female within our trailer and our ancillary tasks.

Preliminary Task Pitch - Chase Sequence

Starting A2

This Is Now The Start of My Work For A2
So far I have decided to create a horror trailer, working together with Jodie Birkbeck, Laura Naylor & Charlotte Park. I thought working with Laura, Charlotte and Jodie would be a good idea as it would make the product slightly easier by having others to contribute to the work and help you to get it done as quickly and as high of a standard as possible. As well as this, I know the 4 of us can work well together. We have a few ideas that I will post later when we have finalised our final idea.
My next posts will be researching the codes and conventions of horror trailers which will help us create a successful trailer that meets the typical conventions and target audience that we need to reach. Also I will be choosing 3/4 already existing horror trailers and analysing them using my research from earlier.

The ancillary tasks that will go with our horror trailer will be a poster, promoting the horror film to the public and hopefully reach our target audience and then also a magazine article, reviewing the film. After I have posted my research for horror trailers, I will post my analysis of film posters and film reviews/magazine articles. This will help me to make my ancillary tasks as high standard as possible to go with my trailer as I will be learning the conventions and the best techniques/features to use with them also.

Question 7 - Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the profession from it to the full product?

Evaluation Question 7 - Video Maker

After learning how to use all of the different technologies and software's to enable me to explore various ways of presenting my work, I have realised that In the age of web 2.0 I am now a prosumer instead of a consumer. This means that I create work for the consumption of the public, whereas I used to be part of the public who consumed other companies produce, such as magazines etc.

Overall Questionnaire

The intention of this questionnaire was to see how my target audience would react to it, this would allow me to see how successful my magazine was and if my target audience were affected in the way i intended by the magazine.  I chose to use an open questionnaire, as i would enable me to be able to collect more detailed data and although it is more time consuming (to both complete the questionnaire and process the data) it still gives me more accurate information about what i want to know.

Question 4 - What would be the audience for your media product?

Q) What would be the audience for your media product?

My preliminary target audience for my magazine is men and women aged 15 -25.

Due to the age of my target audience, i know they would be able to afford £1.50 every fortnight for my magazine, as they will either have a job or they might possibly get pocket money, or just money in general from their parents.

Male: 43%

Female: 57%

Average Age: 19

Work Full Time: 41%

Work Part Time: 39%

Audience Profile: For professional magazines, it is very important they they get to know their target audience. Getting to know the magazine's audience allows the magazines to put more in the magazine that the audience is interested in, thus having a domino effect on the number of sales of the magazine (more people will buy it, in turn, bringing in more money for the magazine). A reader profile is very important for a magazine, as it allows them to collect the information which they can they use to help their magazine. I have made a reader profile (below) so that i could have the same understanding about my audience, helping me to reach out to my target audience more.
